1. Use of Data
WhoBoughtMyRep displays publicly available campaign finance data sourced from the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and the U.S. Congress. This data is in the public domain.
You may use, share, and embed data from this site for journalistic, educational, research, or personal use, provided you attribute the source as “WhoBoughtMyRep (whoboughtmyrep.com), data from FEC.gov.”
Commercial redistribution of our processed data or API responses — including reselling, sublicensing, or incorporating into a paid product without permission — is prohibited without a written agreement. Contact us to discuss licensing.
2. API Access
API keys are issued for individual use. You are responsible for keeping your key secure. Do not share keys publicly, commit them to version control, or expose them in client-side code.
You agree not to use the API to: scrape or bulk-export data for redistribution; circumvent rate limits; attempt to access data beyond your subscription tier; or build applications that misrepresent or distort the underlying FEC data.
We reserve the right to revoke API access for violations of these terms without refund.
3. Accuracy & Disclaimers
All data is sourced from official FEC filings and Congress.gov. While we strive for accuracy, we make no warranties regarding completeness, timeliness, or accuracy. Users should independently verify information at fec.gov and congress.gov. This is not an official government product or endorsement.
4. Privacy Policy
What we collect: When you request an API key or make a purchase, we collect your email address. Payment processing is handled by Stripe — we do not store credit card information.
How we use it: Your email is used to deliver your API key, send account-related notices, and (if you opt in) send updates about WhoBoughtMyRep. We do not sell or share your email with third parties.
Third-party services: This site uses Supabase (database), Stripe (payments), and Vercel (hosting). Each has their own privacy policy.
Data retention: We retain your email and API key for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time by contacting us.
Cookies: We use minimal session cookies required for site functionality. We do not use advertising trackers.
